Sencilia wins i4KIDS-EUROPE Hospital Challenge Programme 2024

Sencilia, winner of the i4KIDS-EUROPE Hospital Challenge Programme 2024 for its innovative solution in paediatric medication risk monitoring. The final of this contest was held in Riga, during the Pediatric Innovation Day 2024.

The Pediatric Innovation Day 2024, organised by i4KIDS & i4KIDS-EUROPE and hosted by Children Clinical University Hospital of Latvia, held the final of the i4KIDS-EUROPE Hospital Challenge Programme.

Sencilia, an early-stage Deeptech/MedTech startup from the Netherlands, won the competition with its innovative solution based on sensor-guided IV infusion therapy for safer drug administration to paediatric patients.

The i4KIDS-EUROPE Hospital Challenge Programme was open to companies and start-ups from the healthcare innovation ecosystem and was designed to identify disruptive solutions that help improve internal processes in paediatric hospitals, focusing on: improving clinical workflows, monitoring high-risk medications and appointment efficiency in paediatric healthcare.

Six innovative companies from around the world competed in an exciting pitch competition to present their cutting-edge solutions to critical paediatric healthcare challenges:

Solution: Sensor-based infusion therapy for safer drug delivery

Solution: RFID wristband technology to monitor doses and link medicines to patients

Solution: Speech-to-text tool to record interactions during consultations and generate clinical reports

Solution: A multilingual tool for predicting potential no-shows, with a focus on oncology

Solution: AI platform to automate administrative tasks and clinical coding

Solution: A multilingual tool to improve appointment efficiency and reduce no-shows,

Sencilia, winner of the i4KIDS-EUROPE Hospital Challenge Programme

After careful consideration based on quality of idea, ability to implement, impact and team strength, Sencilia was announced by the jury as the winner of the competition.

The winning solution will receive €5,000 to initiate a pilot project in one of the i4KIDS-EUROPE hospitals, as well as the opportunity to follow up with at least two children’s hospitals in the network to explore the implementation of the solution in these centres. Sencilia also received a voucher for consultancy services from the Inveniam Group.

The i4KIDS acceleration programme kicks off its 2025 edition with seven innovative projects in fetal, paediatric, and maternal health. Five of these come from i4KIDS member organisations, while two are from the ITEMAS network. Over six months, they will receive training and mentoring in clinical validation and market access. The programme will conclude at the Pediatric Innovation Day on 20 November in Barcelona.

This collaboration reinforces the commitment to paediatric health innovation by ensuring the inclusion of at least one project in this field. The initiative complements i4KIDS’ recently launched acceleration programme, with both offering distinct yet complementary goals: while i4KIDS supports early-stage projects (TRL 2–4) through tailored valorisation, CRAASH Barcelona focuses on more advanced solutions (TRL 3–6) and their clinical and market validation.
